Summary

This work presents a simple evolutionary system based on Langton’s self-reproducing loop. This is entirely done with a normal state-transition rule based CA. The initial structure of the loop was modified to catch variations. An interesting consequence of this system evolving is its natural tendency to evolve towards smaller loops despite no stochastic mutation being hard-coded.
